Our Story
James Alexander Garden Rooms is a small, family-run business rooted in Somerset, delivering bespoke timber buildings across the south of England. The business was founded by Alex and Dee. A natural next step after Alex spent more than two decades as a director for some of the UK's leading timber building suppliers. After years working at scale, they made a deliberate decision to do things differently, launching James Alexander to put the customer experience back at the centre of everything.
Our Philosophy
We believe that genuine customer focus, considered design and uncompromising build quality are what set a great building apart from a good one. Unlike larger competitors, we choose to take on only a handful of projects each month. That's a deliberate decision, one that allows us to give every client, and every build, the time and attention it truly deserves.
The Team
We're supported by a close-knit team of skilled and dedicated people, many of whom Alex has worked alongside for years. While the team brings each project to life on site, Dee keeps everything running smoothly from the office with our dogs providing their own brand of quality control throughout.
Quality & Craftsmanship
Every hardwood building we produce is crafted from Sapele a beautiful, durable African hardwood fully certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). FSC certification means every piece of timber we use is sourced from responsibly managed forests, giving you complete confidence in both the quality and the conscience of your build. We also make every effort to ensure our buildings are as environmentally responsible as possible, sourcing from UK manufacturers wherever we can.
✦ Manufacturing; Our buildings are manufactured to our own personal specifications in Milton Keynes. Every building is independently engineered to ensure full compliance with Building Control requirements. Factory tours are available on request.
✦ Windows & Doors; Our hardwood windows and doors are crafted with flush casements, delivering excellent weatherproofing alongside a clean, refined appearance. We also offer slim-profile aluminium windows and doors in a wide range of colours, designed to complement your painted timber frame perfectly.
✦ Roof Lanterns; Our Sapele roof lanterns are factory-made with tapered dovetail joints and tenoned eaves — a construction method that creates a strong, seamless joint for the glazing and guarantees an exceptional weather rating.
